Homemade (No sugar added) Tomato Pasta Sauce
Sugar has been used as condiment centuries ago by our great grand mothers in cooking. If consumed in moderation (WHO recommendation: 6 teaspoon a day) you don't have to worry about the adverse health effect of sugar. However, sugar has been added to almost every processed food in the amount which is way too much our body can take. Would you have guess it is in our favourite tomato pasta sauce as well?
Check the ingredient list of the store bought tomato pasta sauce before you put them into your cart. You will be surprised that sugar is one of the main ingredients in store-bought tomato pasta sauce.
Here I'd like to share my homemade tomato pasta sauce which is sugar free and additive free. It is not only full of nutrients because you are using fresh ingredient, it is also cheaper.
Serve: 4
Difficulty: Easy
Time: 30 minutes
Ingredients:
4 medium red rip Tomato (chopped)
1 medium Potato (chopped)
0.5 Onion (chopped)
3 cloves of Garlic (chopped)
2 tbsp of Olive oil
2 tbsp of Apple cider vinegar
1 tspn of Mixed herbs (thyme, marjoram, parsley, oregano, sage, basil)
1 tspn of Black pepper
0.5 tspn of Himalayan pink salt
1 cup of water
1. Heat up the cooking pan and olive oil, then cook the onion and garlic until fragrant.
2. Then add potato and cook for a couples of minutes. This is the secret ingredient which bring sweetness to the sauce without having to add refined sugar. It also give a creamy texture to the sauce.
3. Then the tomato and water.
4. The condiment: salt, pepper, mixed herbs and apple cider vinegar.
5. Let it boil until it is thick and creamy.
6. You can either choose to blend it if you want a smoother texture, or use it as it is.
Store it in a clean jar if you are not using it immediately. It can be stored in fridge for about 5 days. You can skip the condiments if you are preparing this for your baby. I purposely keep the condiment at the minimum, so that I can used it not only as pasta sauce, season as you wish. Hope you will give it a try and be proud of making you own pasta sauce from scratch. It is a lot more healthier compare to store bought sauce.
